Persistent traditions and fresh winds: addressing toxic masculine behaviour at Dutch Fraternaties |
Financiering | € 60.000 |
Projectleiding | Mw dr. M. Cense (Rutgers) |
Looptijd | February 2023 – july 2024 |
Doelstelling |
This project is aimed at studying sexuality and interventions that intend to change harmful or toxic norms and behaviour within male sections (fraternities) of traditional Dutch student associations (in Dutch: studentencorpora). Using an interdisciplinary perspective, the research aims to better understand norms about masculinity and sexuality at Dutch fraternities and study ways and efforts to increase the health, safety and wellbeing of young men themselves, as well as cisgender straight women and LGBTQI+ identifying persons. |

Investigating age-appropriate methodologies for the sexual development of children |
Financiering | € 60.000 |
Projectleiding | Mw Titia Beek (Rutgers) |
Looptijd | Mei 2023 – oktober 2024 |
Doelstelling |
With this project we will identify, adapt and pilot test age-appropriate and ethical methods for studying sexual development among younger children (ages 4-10). |
Producten | Even though pre-puberal children show sexual feelings or behaviors, research on the sexual and relationship development of pre-puberal children is scarce. This is at least partly due to limitations in the methodologies that are used and ethical concerns when studying this topic in this age-group. With this project, we will identify, select, adapt and pilot age-appropriate methods to study sexual and relational development in younger children. These methods can be used by researchers broadly interested in studying the sexual development of younger children. As studying the sexual development of children is quite complex (methodically and ethically), the current project focuses on gaining the necessary pieces of information to design such studies: which methods and instruments are appropriate for different age-groups? Which ethical aspects do we need to consider? We will conduct a literature exploration and consult with interdisciplinary experts, teachers and parents to answer these questions. |

Examining LGBTQ+ Youth of Color in the Netherlands: An Intersectional Approach |
Financiering | € 419.630 |
Projectleiding | Mw prof.dr. S. Does (VU) |
Looptijd | September 2022 – september 2026 |
Doelstelling |
This project will study LGBTQ+ youth of color in the Netherlands in three ways. Firstly, we want to gain insight into racism and ethnic discrimination that LGBTQ+ youth face within the Dutch LGBTQ+ community, and society in general. Second, we will look at online and offline communities that provide spaces for LGBTQ+ young people of color in the Netherlands for positive role models, sense of community, joy, and empowerment. Finally, we aim to shed light on the extent to which experiences of LGBTQ+ youth of color are overlooked or ignored in design of interventions, (mental) health care and policy design in the Netherlands. |

A Long-term Follow-up of Autistic Transgender Children and Adolescents
|
|
Financiering | € 48.948 |
Projectleiding | Mw A.I.R. van der Miesen (VUmc) |
Looptijd | May 2020 – may 2022 |
Doelstelling |
Multiple studies have identified a significant over-representation of autism among transgender children and adolescents. This project therefore aims to investigate the long-term outcomes of autistic transgender children and adolescents previously seen in a specialized gender identity service who are now adults. With information about their gender identity development over time, mental health outcomes, and health care experiences we hope to ultimately improve the care for the autistic individuals seen in gender identity services worldwide. |
